Woman at Home

A self Portrait Series

Like many female artists before me I have aimed to explore my identity as a woman; the allure, the anger, the façade, the pain and the expectation. In this journey I have come to discover that I am not just one identity, I am many. Womanhood is not a singular identity, its a series of characters, meshed together, that raise conflict within each other, with peace being an unlikely outcome. Womanhood often feels like a costume where we shroud ourselves in the safety of a trope. Woman at home is a study of the costumes worn and the aesthetic and emotional conflict between them.

In the dark depths of the internet are articles about the different "types" of women that men should either marry or absolutely avoid. Women are minimised to the basic Madonna versus Whore trope. There is no space for anger, intellect or sexuality other than within the male gaze
